It’s been a busy few months!
At our May meeting we discussed and then voted for the resolution to lobby the Government for more midwives. We then had a presentation on ceramics and working with clay, by member Alison Gardner, followed by a messy but fun practical session making pinch pots!
In June we were taken on a ‘Romantic tour of Chester’ by our speaker, a guide from the Tourist Board, who enlightened us to some fascinating facts from history about the city.
July’s meeting saw us amused by a group of women who performed entertaining readings of their own poetry and short stories.
Trips have included lovely days at Capesthorne Hall and Macclesfield Silk Museum and Mill and two evenings out to the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe to see comedy plays.
Our Jubilee Walk on footpaths around Whitegate, which took in Vale Royal locks and woodland swathed in bluebells, was well supported and everyone enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea (as would be expected from the WI!), at the end. We have now started a regular evening walking group which is open to anyone interested.
‘Team Whitegate’ is progressing well with learning to bowl - training taking place at Over Rec. in Winsford – we hope to take part in competition bowling later in the year! Incidentally, if anyone has any woods (the balls used in bowling) that they no longer require, we would be very pleased to give them a good home!
Individual and group entries have been exhibited successfully at the Cheshire Show after many meetings, lots of effort painting, sewing, baking etc. and plans for our own Village Show in September are also well under way. It is open to everyone and we would love as many people to enter as possible to make it a fun community event. There is something for everyone: baking, photography, art, craft, flower arranging, horticulture and children’s competitions with cups and prizes to be won! There’s plenty of time to think about what to enter and schedules are available with full details from the
Church porch, Sandiway library or online at www.whitegatewi.weebly.com.
Check-out our website for other information about what’s going on at WI and to see photos of recent events and activities. Our next meetings will be a Summer
Soiree, with salmon and strawberries, on Wednesday 1 August and a talk on
the Eden Project on 5 September, please join us!
