The Mystery Shopper
Our February meeting began with a talk on the life of a Mystery Shopper by former
bank manager, Keith Vigurs. Since retirement Keith’s life has been busy with
trips around the country checking-up on the services provided to customers in
various shops and other organisations. His days vary from sitting on railway
stations recording the time trains stop, to describing mystery medical
conditions with a variety of invented symptoms to pharmacists. Other times he
has to book in at hotels to check on the service from staff and facilities
provided, including the restaurant where he has to record things like the time
between ordering and receiving courses of a meal (often accompanied by his wife
pretending to do a crossword while she is actually recording his stopwatch
timings!)
Following a break for tea and biscuits, where there was a chance to catch-up with friends
and visitors, the evening continued with business matters. Volunteers for the
next quiz and darts match were found and details of forthcoming meetings to
organise entries for the Village Show in September, and Cheshire County Show in
June, were given out. Big news this year is that Whitegate WI will be
celebrating its 60thbirthday! Plans are afoot for a party in July with buffet and games
– members were asked to bring a photo of themselves as children for a guess who’s who
competition. In addition to our monthly meetings there will be our usual book club meeting,
darts practice and new craft evenings, plus trips - the next one being to the
Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford (a follow-up to the donation made from our monthly
Soup & Sandwich lunches).
Next month, Wednesday 5 March, will be a demonstration of wok
cooking with an opportunity to taste – so don’t have too much for tea
beforehand! New members and visitors are invited to join us at 7.30pm
in the Recreation Room, Whitegate.
More details of all our activities are available on the website www.whitegatewi.weebly.com
