Salmon & strawberries to fabric Christmas trees
Our August meeting was on a lovely warm summer evening, spent in a member’s garden - a chance to socialise over a sumptuous salmon and strawberry supper, provided by the members of the committee.
September’s meeting inspired us to practise flower arranging for the Village Show, with a variety of colourful and innovative demonstrations. Some were even in household
utensils like a lemon squeezer, as required by one of the Show classes! The
arrangements were later taken home by six lucky raffle winners. The Show, a few
weeks later, was a great success with many villagers having a go at entering,
and lots more coming to enjoy viewing all the entries and to eat some delicious
WI cakes.
By October we were already thinking ahead to Christmas, as we had a practical
session making fabric Christmas trees. A couple of weeks later– more craft - as
we had another of our very successful, quarterly craft classes run by our own
members. This time, Alison and Sarah, showed us how to make ‘quilted patchwork’
fabric baubles for the Christmas tree. These are now available to buy (along
with a complete kit with instructions, to make your own). A new venture;
informal monthly ‘craft and chat’ evenings will be starting-up in the Mews, in
the New Year – an opportunity to work on your own projects or share skills, over
a cup of tea.
In November, after a hot pot supper, it was down to business with our AGM. The
committee was elected, with several new members volunteering– some of whom had
only recently joined WI. The committee arrange the programme for coming year and
2014 starts with some very interesting topics. In January it will be Meditation
in the Modern World,a talk by a member of the Odiyana Buddhist Centre,
Northwich. February will be Mystery Shopping and in March it will beWok Cooking; a demonstration with an opportunity to taste!
Our regular activities, including darts and book club, continue between our monthly
meetings, along with trips to events suggested by members; the most recent being
a trip to the Walker Art Gallery to see the David Hockney – Early Reflectionsexhibition. The next trip will be to the White Christmas event at Tatton Park on Monday 25 November.
