Wok Cooking
Delicious cooking smells filled the room as we began our March meeting with a brilliant demonstration of wok cooking by enthusiast Judy Townsend. Judy, a member of Nantwich WI, also demonstrates cookery techniques in schools and to classes at Age UK.
She quickly cooked up some prawn crackers for us, which were handed round whilst she explained what she was going to be demonstrating next; a pork pasty with sweet chilli sauce. There was plenty for everyone and we realised why we had been warned not to have too much to eat before coming to the meeting!
Next was a lovely dish of chicken with mange tout, sweet corn, ginger, garlic, pineapple, and onions, with light, dark
and oyster sauces splashed in. Those with room then tried her fruit fritters with choices of banana, mango and
pineapple.
In a relaxed atmosphere, tasty samples were passed around and members asked questions as Judy answered, whilst she deftly wielded her knife preparing the next ingredients, simultaneously keeping an eye on the contents of the wok, stirring and tossing as necessary!
Later we had the business part of the meeting where future events were discussed. The tour to the Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford followed by a meal at Pesto, Tarporley; the upcoming darts competition plus regular activities like book club, Cheshire Show entry and the new Craft Club.
New members are always welcome to join us - check-out our website www.whitegatewi.weebly.com or come along on the night. Our next monthly meeting will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday 2 April at the Recreation Room,
with a talk on Tatton Park and the Egerton Family.
